The game incorporates both lightsaber combat and shooter elements, and can be played from either a third- or first-person perspective.
Movie Battles II is a team-based game that allows players to join either the Lights Side of the Force (represented by the Galactic Republic, the Rebel Alliance, or the Resistance, depending on the map) or the Dark Side (represented by the Separatists/CIS, the Galactic Empire, or the First Order).
